Santa Tereza foi um dos maiores ícones da igreja católica e por ser a padroeira da cidade de Imperatriz é a imagem mais importante do catolicismo na cidade. Com a chegada de Frei Manoel Procópio, sua principal missão foi de evangelização ao povoado que em seu primeiro momento recebeu o nome de colônia militar de santa Tereza do Tocantins. E Santa Tereza se tornou um dos maiores símbolos dessa missão.
Com ideais sempre positivos, como a alegria, a imagem da Santa conquistou a população, se tornando um patrimônio cultural há 167 anos fazendo com que seus ensinamentos passem de geração para geração.
Sendo conhecida desde a infância de muitas pessoas, uma das maiores tradições que permite esse conhecimento desde cedo é a catequese, que sofreu grandes mudanças desde os seus primórdios, deixando de ser uma forma de “ensinamento” em si e passou a ser uma forma externalizar e mostrar a “mensagem” de Jesus, como uma maneira de despertar a fé.
Com ideais baseados em união, amizade, respeito e simpatia, a catequese ainda é um grande e importante rito de passagem para muitos. Principalmente, por ser um meio de transmitir vários ensinamentos para as crianças, como o perdão e o convívio em comunidade.

E a imagem de Santa Teresa, conhecida também como “madrinha protetora”, é um modo de trazer ensinamentos e permitir a interação das crianças que desde cedo passam a conviver com a presença da mesma.
Para Gabriel, os ensinamentos de Santa Teresa passados na catequese são uma forma de “Atuar de forma cristã e consciente na sociedade atual, em que o mundo mostra uma forma não certa de ser cristão, a religião é existente por que faz essa religação do ser humano ao Sagrado!”
Santa Teresa é considerada doutora da igreja, que disseminou vocações religiosas e religiosos, no tempo que a igreja estava em crise, por conta da contra reforma com seu exemplo de vida, caridade e paciência, é a forma mais pura do fiel se apegar e se apaixonar por seus ensinamentos e pela personalidade marcante que ao longo dos anos conquista fieis desde sua infância.
